Day 3 at Nethy

Today we were working in two small groups on three different activities. It was another packed day and there isn't much time to rest between activities so it is very relaxing to be watching a film tonight instead of tearing around outside. The weather was a bit cold and unsettled during the morning but it did brighten up for the afternoon. Most of us ended up a bit wet anyway after the canoeing!

Some of are a tad competitive at times!

Abbie is enjoying herself!

A ball game

Bottoms up!

You're never too young!

Ooops!

Ever had that sinking feeling!

Of course some of us got wet deliberately!

Great fun had by all and of course dry clothes on hand afterwards!

Archery
Everyone had a go at archery today.

Ready, take aim ...

Fire!

Proof that some of us hit the target!

Dry slope skiing.
For most of us it was our first time at dry slope skiing. It is a challenging activity that requires a deal of resilience and perseverance. Everyone had a few falls but it was most impressive how they just got up and carried on! A fair few bruises and scrapes were acquired as the surface is like a scrubbing brush.

Special ski equipment for Martyna and Abbie meant that they could enjoy it too.

Are you going to pull her up the slope with that Mrs Bunning?

Phew! Thankfully there is machinery to do the hard work!

How big is my smile?

and Mum couldn't resist having a go!

Every evening we have a get together and singsong in the theatre. It is called timeout. Last night's presentation included a puppet show.

At the end of the activities we enjoy a swim in the pool and it must help to relieve those aching muscles and joints!

Having a little brother is a good excuse to have a shot in the playpark!
James has described today as the best day of his life and a new level of awesomeness!
Lachlann had just one word to describe it - LEGENDARY.
Alanah and Molly got to realise that the water down here is just as cold as it is at home!
As ever it is great to see a different side to our pupils and they really rise to the challenges given them. The instructors are great and are always impressed by the way island pupils enjoy the outdoors and how keen they are to challenge themselves. Another lovely aspect is the way they encourage each other and make sure everyone has a positive experience, even at the activities that may not be their strong point.
The photographs on the blog at the moment are just some of the snaps taken and I will try to post slideshows of some of the many more that have been taken.
In the meantime keep checking for updates and your comments are always appreciated.

  3. Well we are at the end of day 3 and the last of the activities. We have had a great week - lots of fun, some challenges but always a way through them by supporting each other and working as a team. The biggest challenge is yet to come - packing up and tidying the chalets ready to leave at 8am tomorrow morning.
I have enjoyed seeing our young people during this experience as you get to know them better and see a different side of them. The staff here at Nethy are great - their go fo it attitude and sense of fun helps spur the children on!

Looking forward to my own bed the morn though!
